Warruwi welcome 2024 with a community dance off
Warruwi came together on 31 December to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a community dance off!
During the week prior to the event, Ronnie and Delilah (YSR staff members) along with the assistance of some amazing community volunteers, put together the decorations, ‘Happy New Year’ banner and event food, then spent all of their own free time on the Saturday decorating the hall so the Sunday event could happen.
The whole community turned out for the event which kicked off at 7pm. Damian Narul was our amazing DJ for the night, Jamie (Aged Care), his lovely wife Kaylene and Sophia (YSR Minjilang) manned the barbecue feeding the community before festivities kicked off.
The event started with traditional dancing, singing and music which delighted all, especially with our youngsters joining in. We then held a dance off with numerous groups showing off their dancing skills.
The Young Divas led by Rupert (Night Patrol) and Reuben (Centrelink) eventually took out first prize with their hilarious send up dance to Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money”. All other teams put in an amazing amount of effort and were heard practicing until the wee hours of the morning leading up to the night. We were also so proud of the community as this was a safe and fun event for everyone. The night ended with everyone outside the hall throwing clay and colour at each other. Even Jenny I (TO & Night Patrol) got Matt and Andie who dressed up for the event as Gravy and Vinegar (Salt And Pepper’s failed backup singers).
A big shout out for Ronnie, Delilah, Damian, Jenny I, Sophia, Jamie, our night patrol boys and all the volunteers for all the hard work.
