Accessing information

The Northern Territory Information Act allows people to access certain information under Freedom of Information, including information about how West Arnhem Regional Council conducts its business and information we hold about you. 

Some documents cannot be accessed to protect sensitive or confidential business affairs, or the personal affairs of others. 

Correcting information

If we hold information about you that you believe is inaccurate, incomplete, out-of-date, or misleading, you can apply for that information to be changed.

How to make a request

Requests to access or correct information must be made in writing, including by email.

It must contain enough information to allow us to identify and find the information you want, including any names, dates and subject matter.

You must tell us where you want the information sent and in what format, i.e. print via post or electronic via email. We may ask you to provide proof of identity when requesting personal information.

Requests should be made to records@westarnhem.nt.gov.au.

Fees for requests

There is no application fee to look at documents about your personal affairs or have them emailed to you.  You can ask for copies of these documents for 20c per A4 page. 

There is an application fee of $30.00 for requests for access to non-personal documents. Searches for large amounts of documents may also occur a fee. We will provide you with a quote before any work is undertaken.

What happens after you make a request

If you have provided all the information we need, and paid any fees that are required, we will respond to your request within 30 days.

We may provide you with all, some, or none of the documents you request. If we refuse you access, we will tell you why, and how you can appeal the decision.
