Vote for West Arnhem in National Awards for Local Government

West Arnhem Regional Council has nominated the ‘Stop the Drop’ song project and the the West Arnhem Leadership Summit in the 2025 National Awards for Local Government!
These nominations are a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and the vital role young people play in shaping their futures.
The ‘Stop the Drop’ project is an innovative community education initiative that aims to inspire care for country across West Arnhem Regional Council’s wards. By engaging youth and the broader community in discussions about litter and its environmental impact, the program encourages meaningful conversations and drives behavioural change across the region.
Conducted during school holidays, the project brought together multiple community stakeholders to create a song that truly reflects the perspectives and concerns of local youth. Their lyrics are a powerful call to action:
Stop
Think about it
What are you going to do?
Stop that drop!
Keep our country clean for me and you!
It's in our hands to take a stand
Come together as one
The West Arnhem Youth Leadership Project is an annual initiative that brings young people together from across West Arnhem Land to explore leadership, identity and action. Through team building, co-design and collaboration, students identify needs in their communities, develop real-world solutions, and pitch them to Traditional Owners, Aboriginal Corporations, Elected Council, and government representatives. Their ideas are not only heard - they inform strategic direction for the region.
