Supporting young men through Yarning Space
Recently, West Arnhem Regional Council staff in Warruwi including Rupert and Jonah from the Community Safety team, Council Services Manager Matthew Griffiths and Wellbeing Services Coordinator Geri Narul worked with five youth as part of the Men's Yarning Space. We created conversations around social media and how it impacts us on a daily basis in Warruwi.
The youth really got involved in the conversation on how destructive social media can be but also talked about the positives it brings.
Any young men in Warruwi who wish to be a part of the Men's Yarning Space can speak to Wellbeing Services Coordinator, Geri or Senior Community Safety Officer, Jonah Walamaka. Jonah is in the office from Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 10am.
"The Men's Yarning Space is facilitated by Community Safety/Night Patrol, creating a safe space for our young men in Warruwi.
Community Safety/Night Patrol will work collaboratively with local and external health service providers as a prevention strategy through building positive relationships, providing access to health awareness, traditional healing methods and therapies.”
If you have any further questions, please come see Geri at the WARC office Monday to Friday.
The Men's Yarning Space in Warruwi takes place every Thursday from 10am to 2pm.
