Minjilang enjoys a day of festivities on Australia Day
Minjilang residents came together in strong numbers to celebrate Australia Day, with approximately 150 people attending activities across breakfast and lunch, and a further 50 community members enjoying the evening dance competition.
The day began with a community breakfast, generously supported by ALPA RAES, with Tracey and Anthony from ALPA assisting throughout the day on the barbecue. The support was especially valuable given the larger-than-expected turnout.
During breakfast, children took part in a colouring-in competition, with Joelle from the Crèche and Chelsea from Youth, Sport and Recreation on hand to distribute colouring sheets and provide face painting, keeping young attendees entertained and engaged.
Lunch preparations began earlier than planned to ensure enough food was available for everyone, a decision that paid off as meals were quickly enjoyed by the crowd. The hamburgers were a particular highlight, with positive feedback from community members.
Following lunch, an independent referee judged the colouring-in competition, and prizes were presented to participating children.
Celebrations continued into the evening with a lively dance competition organised by the Sports and Recreation team. Prizes were presented to participants by ALPA, bringing the day’s festivities to a successful close.
Overall, the event ran smoothly with minimal incidents, and community feedback was very positive. The celebrations reflected a strong community spirit and teamwork across all involved.
This Australia Day event was proudly supported by the National Australia Day Council.
