Minjilang comes together in support

On Wednesday, 12 August, Minjilang community came together for a barbecue at the Community Basketball Courts, providing an opportunity to connect and support one another during Sorry Business.
The West Arnhem Regional Council Youth, Sport and Recreation (YSR) team held the barbecue alongside its regular sport and recreation activities, as local teams continue their preparations for the upcoming Kurrung Sports Carnival in Jabiru.
There has been plenty of activity on the basketball courts, with the Minjilang men’s and women’s teams training hard and getting ready to bring their best game to Kurrung.
YSR team member Sophia is currently leading sport and recreation activities in Minjilang and has been doing a fantastic job coaching both basketball teams and supporting community participation.
The barbecue attracted an incredible turnout of around 90 people. After a big evening of training and activities, community members enjoyed a well-deserved meal and the opportunity to spend time together.
The gathering demonstrated the important role Council can play in supporting community during Sorry Business, providing a welcoming space for people to come together, connect and support one another.
It was also a great opportunity to recognise the commitment of Minjilang’s players as they prepare to represent their community at the 2026 Kurrung Sports Carnival.
