Joint Jabiru Library and YSR initiative
On the evening of Thursday 16 January 2025, the inaugural Jabiru late night gaming event was held at the Jabiru Library.
The late-night gaming event is a joint initiative of West Arnhem Regional Council Jabiru Library and Youth, Sport and Recreation team.
The event is targeted at young people between 11 and 18 years of age and aims to provide a safe space to undertake gaming on PC’s, PlayStation as well as more traditional gaming such as table tennis and board games.
The evening was a success and saw numerous young people attend to enjoy what the program has to offer.
They also enjoyed a feed of hot dogs and pop corn to accompany their gaming experience.
The initiative will continue throughout the School Holiday period with plans to continue the event once a fortnight even throughout the school term.
A big shout out to Jabiru Librarian Jillian May for her proactivity and vision relating to this event!
Jabiru Librarian Jill May said, “The late-night gaming nights are a wonderful opportunity for our slightly older participants to enjoy gaming and hanging out with friends in a relaxed and safe environment. With the success of our first event, I look forward to seeing how the event develops over the coming months.”
