Final training sessions are under way in West Arnhem as communities count down the days to the 2025 Kurrung Sports Carnival which kicks off on Friday, 5 September 2025 in Jabiru.
Proudly hosted by West Arnhem Regional Council, the Kurrung Sports Carnival is Council’s and the region’s biggest event of the year -  fostering stronger community bonds and sense of belonging.
Over the weekend, Jabiru will welcome 200 sportspeople forming AFL and basketball teams from Maningrida, Gunbalanya, Warruwi and Kakadu, so there is sure to be a great display of talent as well as community spirit.
The competition officially begins on Friday, 5 September at the Jabiru courts with the start of the men’s basketball competition.
Meanwhile, the women’s basketball competition will continue on Saturday, 6 September at the Jabiru Area School courts, and the men’s AFL contest will kick off at the same time at Brockman Oval.
Long time and valuable partner, the NO MORE Campaign will once have a presence at the carnival. To promote and celebrate positive fair play, respect and camaraderie on and off the field, the NO MORE team will award the ‘Spirit of Kurrung’ cup to the Community which shows these key values.
West Arnhem Regional Council wishes to thank all supporters and sponsors of this year’s carnival:
