Community voices shaping the year ahead

Minjilang Local Authority Meeting - 5 March 2026

It’s been a busy few weeks as we get down to business supporting our communities across the region.
In early March, the first round of Local Authority Meetings for 2026 kicked off, providing a valuable opportunity for Mayor James Woods, Deputy Mayor Jacqueline Phillips and CEO Katharine Murray to connect with members and identify key focus areas for each community for the year ahead. It was also great to spend time with staff and community members during these visits.
While in Maningrida, Minister Steve Edgington MLA had a sit-down meeting with Mayor Woods, Maningrida Councillors and the Maningrida Local Authority.
Mayor Woods and Katharine also met with the Minister in Darwin to talk through key regional priorities, including the future of the Jabiru Airport, the Minjilang Airport access road and water security in Warruwi.
Mayor Woods, Deputy Mayor Phillips and Katharine also visited Warruwi to meet with Traditional Owners to discuss community needs, with a focus on supporting young people and the Warruwi crèche.
Conversations like these help ensure the Warruwi community continues to be heard and supported.
Every conversation helps shape a stronger future, and we will continue to proactively advocate for our communities.
