Chemical training in Minjilang and Maningrida

West Arnhem Regional Council (WARC) staff in Minjilang and Maningrida were the first two communities to welcome CDU Trainers for the ‘Treat Weeds and Apply Chemicals’ course, delivered on-site for the very first time.
This course used to be part of the ‘Ranger Ready Program’ in Jabiru once a year. In 2025, WARC has coordinated directly with CDU for this activity to be delivered on-site in each community. 
Murray Lauritsen, CDU Trainer that was in Maningrida, says that having this type of training delivered within the work environment provides context and relevance. “On-site training allows participants to practice skills on the actual equipment and in the actual work environment, leading to quicker and more effective learning”. 
This course has provided the Works Crews USC, and AROs with appropriate strategies for weed control problems. They have learnt the different types of weeds, chemical herbicides, and safe practices to eliminate them.
