International Womens Day

On Friday 7 March 2025, West Arnhem Regional Council held their annual International Women’s Day event at the Jabiru Public Library.
The high tea was a heart-warming event with community members leaving with a smile and motivation to accelerate action for all women!
The event kicked off with an amazing traditional dance performed by Grace Tapera which was followed by an inspirational speech by our guest speaker and 2024 Jabiru young citizen of the year award recipient Casey Day.
At the conclusion of the presentations our guests were free to indulge in the mouth-watering catering provided by Ashlee Christophersen from deadly meals on wheels and peruse the vanity gift bags which included a lovely bar of soap from Indigenous owned and operated business Bush Medijina (based out of Groote Eylandt, NT).
The event was a huge success thanks to the tireless efforts of our Senior Librarian Jillian May and our Youth, Sport and Recreation Officer Leah Holt-Narul.
Wellbeing Services Coordinator for Jabiru Aden Reeves said, “This event was a huge success and would not have happened without the tireless efforts of our Senior Librarian Jillian May and our Youth, Sport and Recreation Officer Leah Holt-Narul. I would also like to give massive shout outs to deadly meals on wheels for the catering, Grace Tapera for the awe-inspiring traditional dance, Casey Day for the inspirational presentation she gave and lastly Bush Medijina for supporting our event and providing lovely bars of soap for our guests to take home with them.”
The event was supported by the Northern Territory Government.
