2026 Warruwi Ward By-Election

The Northern Territory Electoral Commission (NTEC) is conducting a by-election to fill a casual vacancy (1 position) in the Warruwi Ward of the West Arnhem Regional Council.

These elections will be held in July 2026.

Nominations

Have you considered standing as a Councillor to represent your community on the West Arnhem Regional Council?

Community members who are interested in representing the Warruwi Ward are encouraged to nominate as candidates.

Nomination period: 

Open: Thursday 9 July 2026
Closes: 12 noon, Wednesday 15 July 2026 

Where to get forms: Warruwi Council Office or the Northern Territory Electoral Commission website.

Eligibility: 
• Be 18+
• Be enrolled in the local government area you’re nominating for
• Meet all requirements detailed on the nomination form 

Electoral Roll

Voting is compulsory in all Northern Territory elections.

Eligible electors must ensure they are correctly enrolled by the close of roll:

• Close of roll: 5:00pm, Monday 13 July 2026 

The electoral roll is maintained by the Australian Electoral Commission. Residents can enrol or update their details via the AEC website.

Voting services for the by-election will be available as follows:

• In-Person Voting in Warruwi: Tuesday, 28 July from 9.30am - 1.30pm at the Council Office
• Postal voting: From Monday 20 July 2026
