West Arnhem Regional Council proudly hosted the 2026 Kakadu Triathlon on Saturday, 2 May, delivering another outstanding event that brought together competitors, volunteers, sponsors and supporters from across the Top End for a day of fitness, fun and community spirit.
Held at the Jabiru Pool, the Kakadu Triathlon featured short-course races for adults, along with a junior category designed to encourage young people to get active and involved in the sport. The family-friendly format continues to make the event accessible for people of all ages and abilities, whether they are experienced triathletes or first-time competitors.
Now in its 14th year, the Kakadu Triathlon has firmly established itself as a highlight on the Top End sporting calendar. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and strong community focus, the event continues to attract participants from across the Northern Territory and beyond.
This year’s event saw around 150 competitors take part, with participants embracing the opportunity to challenge themselves while supporting an important cause. The 2026 event raised almost $20,000 for CareFlight Top End, the event’s long-standing beneficiary.
The success of the triathlon is built on strong partnerships between West Arnhem Regional Council, CareFlight, Darwin Triathlon Club, Triathlon NT and a wide range of local businesses and sponsors who work together each year to bring the event to life.
Behind the scenes, countless hours of planning and preparation went into ensuring the event ran smoothly and safely. From volunteers assisting on the course, to emergency services, event organisers, sponsors and community supporters, the Kakadu Triathlon continues to showcase the strength of collaboration within the region.
West Arnhem Regional Council Mayor James Woods said the event reflects the strong sense of community that exists across West Arnhem.
“The Kakadu Triathlon is a fantastic example of how sport can bring people together while supporting an important cause,” Mayor Woods said.
“It’s not just about racing – it’s about community, participation and getting behind CareFlight, whose work is so vital for people living across the Top End.
“Every year we see incredible support from volunteers, local businesses, partner organisations and competitors who all contribute to making this event such a success.”

The 2026 Kakadu Triathlon was proudly supported by West Arnhem Regional Council, Stedman’s Construction and Engineering, PTM Group, Ranger Rehabilitation Project, JN Mousellis Civil Contractors, Get Set Safety and Emergency Training, Marrawuddi Arts & Culture, Jabiru Service Station, Kakadu Tourism, Kaddum Industries, NT Triathlon, Darwin Triathlon Club, Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, Cooinda Lodge, Intensity NT, Caulfield Grammar and Sodexo.
