2026 ANZAC Day commemorations
Minjilang
On ANZAC Day, members of the community came together for a small and respectful ceremony to acknowledge and remember those who have served, suffered and sacrificed in war, conflict, and peacekeeping operations.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Red Lily Health Clinic, Mamaruni School, ALPA Store, RAES, and West Arnhem Regional Council. Wreaths were laid by Red Lily Health Clinic, Mamaruni School, and West Arnhem Regional Council as part of the service.
The ceremony was a solemn and respectful occasion, with a calm and relaxed atmosphere that allowed everyone to pause, reflect and pay their respects.
Following the ceremony, a community BBQ was held from 9am to 11am, with around 60 local community members attending to share food and spend time together. The BBQ provided a positive opportunity for the community to come together after the service.
West Arnhem Regional Council would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the day. Lest we forget.
Jabiru
A beautiful and respectful Dawn Service was held at the Jabiru Cenotaph this ANZAC Day, with CEO Katharine Murray serving as MC for the event.
NORFORCE personnel formed the Catafalque Party, while Police and Fire and Emergency Services supported the service and led the community march to Jabiru Lake for the community breakfast.
Thank you to everyone involved in the morning, including guest speaker Lieutenant Andy Ralph - Unit 72 Australian Army Cadets, West Arnhem Regional Council staff New Zealand Army veteran Lajane Nicholls who delivered the welcome prayer, Gwynn, Jayden and Tyson as flag orderlies, and Cr Mickitja Onus who laid the Council wreath.
We also acknowledge the many staff working behind the scenes to bring the event together.
At 8:20am, the community experienced a special ANZAC Day flyover by the Royal Australian Air Force. Lest we forget.
