AFL NT in Jabiru

On the evening of Thursday 27 March 2025 West Arnhem Regional Council, through their Youth, Sport and Recreation Program (YSR), engaged the services of AFL NT to deliver an afternoon of AFL drills, activities and games. AFL NT representative Kieran Mulholland travelled from Darwin and provided our YSR participants with many hours of skill and team building drills followed by some very competitive games. This event was an outcome of the Youth Leadership Summit.
The event was supported by Richard Tambling from CLONTARF who provided assistance in facilitating the event as well as providing transport to a number of youths from outstations nearby to Jabiru.
Red Lily Health also collaborated in the event with Ed Spilsbury, the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Officer, and Kia Gowler, the Tackling Indigenous Smoking Officer, providing a strong message about ‘No Smoking’ and providing general assistance with the barbecue and facilitating activities.
A very special shout out needs to go out to Jake from Caulfield Grammar for organising accommodation for Kieran from AFL NT, JAS Deputy Principal Dan for coming down and joining in even with a damaged hand and finally the NLC for providing a number of salads to go with our barbecue.
In total, there was 41 youth participants who attended and participated. A number of community members also came down to watch the event and take advantage of the barbecue.
We would like to extend another big thank you to Kieran from AFL NT for the wonderful evening and we cannot wait to see you back for our YSR School Holiday Program in April.
Wellbeing Services Coordinator for Jabiru Aden Reeves said, “Our Youth, Sport and Recreation program within Jabiru is really gaining momentum which is a true testament to the dedication and hard work of our YSR Officer Leah Holt-Narul. This event is the first of many and was planned as an opportunity to increase familiarity with Kieran from AFL NT as our regional representative due to a planned increase in service delivery in the next few school terms, both within the school setting and the YSR setting. Thanks to all involved!”
