Upgrades to Jabiru landfill

With the New Year under way, West Arnhem Regional Council (WARC) is continuing work to improve services provided throughout the Jabiru township, including the Jabiru Landfill.
At the end of 2017, WARC commenced upgrades to the landfill site, located in the industrial area of town, with construction of separation bays to better facilitate the segregation of recyclable materials, and will ultimately limit the waste streams from entering the landfill.
Phase one of the upgrade will continue early this year with new fencing, followed by phase two which will include the installation of a landfill office facility on site and is expected to take place over the next few months.
Once complete, it will allow better control of waste for recyclable materials and rubbish to be placed in the appropriate areas of the landfill. 
This initiative by WARC is an important one, which not only ensures that Council remains an environmental leader, but also ensures that all conservation efforts are being implemented in the World Heritage-Listed Kakadu National Park.
