Roll out of major projects for Jabiru Beautification

26 March 2021

West Arnhem Regional Council will be carrying out significant exterior upgrades at the Bininj Kunwok Centre which is a co-location space for organisations, consultants and community members that support the social and economic development of the Bininj community.

The new developments at the space, which will begin on Monday, 29 March, are part of the Jabiru Beautification Project which support Jabiru as it transitions to a tourism economy.

The first and most significant work to be undertaken at the centre includes removing the current fencing around the building as well as the existing carpark. This open space will then be transformed with landscaping and grass to beautify the front of the centre.

The facility will also receive two new hard structures for additional shade at the front, a sanded area for cultural activities on the side and two disability carparks will be constructed for access to the building. This significant work will be carried out from this Monday, 29 March to 28 April 2021.

The next step of this major project, will be the construction of a new shared facilities carpark to be located near the Marrawuddi Gallery and the Bininj Kunwok Centre, and this is scheduled to begin in April.

Jabiru Kabolkmakmen Limited Chief Executive Officer Marinella Faggion said, “The Bininj Kunwok Centre is an exciting project that will further progress indigenous enterprise and employment opportunities in-line with the Jabiru Masterplan. Jabiru Kabolkmakmen welcomes the commencement of these significant works and will continue supporting West Arnhem Regional Council on the Jabiru Beautification Project.”

West Arnhem Regional Council Chief Executive Officer Daniel Findley said the upgrades at the Bininj Kunwok Centre and the construction of the new carpark are two of the more significant projects of the Jabiru Beautification roll out, with more to come in the coming months.

“There is so much happening in Jabiru right now with the Jabiru Lake Park upgrades finalised, the beautification of the town plaza and upcoming works at the Jabiru Pool, it is a very exciting time,” Daniel said.

WARC wish thank the Northern Territory Government and Director of National Parks for supporting the Jabiru beautification.
