Maningrida Oval progress

23 October 2020

The upgrade of the Maningrida football oval, funded jointly by the NTG Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture and West Arnhem Regional (WARC) Council is progressing rapidly, with cut and fill works well under way.
The playing surface of the oval will be upgraded to a regional standard for AFL and include improved drainage, which is all important particularly during the wet season.
Upgraded lighting will allow night fixtures to be played with site services being commenced this week in preparation for the light towers to be installed.
Extensive consultation has been conducted with Traditional Owners throughout the works, particularly when several trees were identified around the oval for removal or trimming.
WARC Council Service Manager Yanja Thompson has played an integral role in gathering the appropriate people together to facilitate this consultation.
The oval is a popular recreation area for the Maningrida community and with this in mind, the WARC Technical Services team have supervised the project closely.
They have been on the ground in Maningrida regularly over the past few weeks to ensure the works progress toward successful completion by the end of the year.
