Jabiru Bombers head into first elimination final

21 February 2018

The Jabiru Bombers Football Club (JBFC) finished a somewhat tumultuous home and away season in third place on the ladder, with 13 wins and 4 losses and 1 draw (technically a washout).
The Round 18 game versus Nightcliff Spartans resulted in the top team unable to make the trip out to Jabiru due to water over the Arnhem Highway, resulting in a questionable decision that saw the governing body AFLNT call a washout. As a result Jabiru and Nightcliff were awarded two points each.
Notwithstanding the above, the Round 18 Sponsors Day still went ahead and was a highly successful day with the Gunbalanya contingent flying over and participating in an intra-club match. Off-field activities such as the jumping castle, face painting, water slide and the local Jabiru firefighters keeping the kids entertained.
The JBFC now goes into this week’s first elimination final versing Palmerston, having endured an almost farcical three venue changes in one week - Gardens 1, then Gardens 2, to finally Asbuilt 2 - essentially handing the opposition a home final.
On a positive side, if Jabiru wins the first final they go on to play the loser of the Nightcliff (1) versus Banks (2) game next week. And on it goes, despite finishing third on the ladder the team is subjected to elimination finals every week in an attempt to get the Grand Final in week four.
The JBFC also looks forward to its annual presentation night on Saturday, 24 March with the hardworking committee busying themselves arranging what should be a great night at the Jabiru Sports and Social Club.
