Djelk internship creating young rangers

10 March 2017

Maningrida students Zenayha Doolan, Zoe Taylor, Normalina Olsen, Rickisha Redford Bohme, Samantha Bonson, Dioni Brian and Jonah Ryan have commenced internships with the Djelk Ranger unit.

Six senior secondary students from Maningrida School have just commenced their paid internship with the Djelk Ranger unit.
The Maningrida School Djelk Ranger Internship program provides the opportunity for Learning on Country (LoC) participants to transition from school into the Ranger work-force.
The interns, Zenayha Doolan, Zoe Taylor, Normalina Olsen, Rickisha Redford Bohme, Samantha Bonson, Dioni Brian and Jonah Ryan (who will work 3 days with Djelk Rangers – from Wednesday to Friday each week) are contracted for a six month period, working every Wednesday with Rangers.
Those that apply themselves diligently to both their school studies and Ranger duties will be offered full-time positions with Djelk upon completion of their Year 12 NTCET.
All the Interns have worked very hard over the last 2 years and have successfully completed their Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management (CLM), a significant achievement itself, and this will help them commence their Ranger work with a solid foundation of skills and knowledge.
Djelk Rangers recognise the Maningrida Schools Learning on Country program and the Internship initiative as developing the next generation of Rangers working and caring for country and they are thanked for their partnership in this endeavour.
Those involved wished to thank all school staff for their support of our students and the LoC program, as well as Mitch Carey (Senior LoC teacher/VET CLM Trainer-Assessor) who has worked closely with these students over the last few years and Miranda and Kieren who have embraced and embedded LoC into the school space as a valuable career pathway program.
