Community spirit shines through at Kakadu Triathlon

More than 115 participants challenged themselves in the colourful annual Kakadu Triathlon in Jabiru on Saturday, May 8.
Coordinated by West Arnhem Regional Council, the event caters for junior and open competitors on a short-course triathlon and duathlon, and encourages people of all ages and abilities to challenge themselves and have fun.
This year’s event attracted a great number of competitors from Darwin and Jabiru and collectively, the event raised just under $15,000 for CareFlight.
In the results, Jabiru brothers Kade, Nate and Reed Chapman made their community very proud with all three placing. In the teams section, the Gunbalanya Bushies (Josh Randell/ John Barkley/ Greg Shirley) were the winners, and Extreme Team featuring Aiden Wright, former Jabiru local Denise House and Adam Thompson placed second overall.
A huge thank you to the race director Lucas Hayden, Gary Wall, Tim Ellison and his team, Martina Grimwshaw and the Health Centre, the presenters, Jabiru Childcare, CareFlight staff, Emergency Services, and also a very big thank you to the Council pool staff and works crew.
