Arrmunbu Centre opens in Gunbalanya

14 December 2014

November was a busy month at the Arrmunbu Child and Family Centre in Gunbalanya, with an official opening on Thursday 20 November. Centre Manager Kim Shannon said the opening day went smoothly.

“Thanks to Awhi, Gordon and Donna for setting up, and all the Child and Family Centre staff for doing an amazing job throughout the day,” Kim said.

Clontarf Foundation and Girls Academy students came over from Jabiru to help level out topsoil for some turf to be laid. Thanks to their efforts, the Arrmunbu Centre now had beautiful green grass for the children to play on, she said.

The Families as First Teachers (FaFT) area got an extension with a deck and roof, giving them more room to play and interact. Arrmunbu staff oversaw the arrival of 300 trees and plants, all planted with the help of Gunbalanya students.

“We have seen a sensory garden area being built before our eyes with fruit trees, swings, stage and boat,” Kim said. Shade cloths have also been installed, allowing the children to spend more time outdoors."
